Unlikely although I know of no definitive studies which have been done.

Is there any advantage to either?

Liquid is sure to dissolve even if you only use mildly hot water for
washing. It does seem to foam more than powder/crystals do (which is bad in
a dishwasher) and why most appliance service technicians prefer customers
use the latter.
