Buying a much bigger house

They live below their
means, which is still a very good standard of living compared to most
people.
Why would anyone choose to live below their means? Fear of bad times ahead?
They don't believe they deserve it? Their reward will come in Heaven?
Were you this slow back in school?
Assuming you don't marry wealth or inherit it, wealth accumulation
requires *seed* to take root and grow. That seed is cash. Spending
every dime you earn (living/spending at your means level) is a
self-induced prohibition against wealth. The most beautiful and
powerful instrument for wealth creation is compound interest. For
those who use this tool really well, they reach a divergent point
where spending on one's self can never keep up with the wealth being
generated. But if you're hell bent on gauging spending to equal
income there is no seed, no wealth, no juice, because you have no
stinking clue.
Your Question: Why would anyone choose to live below their means?
A. Because they're interested in wealth.
Get it?
