Quite a few Youtube videos showing how to remove a tree stump with the
use of a vehicle. The result is usually the same, either the small stump
comes out of the ground and straight into the back window of the vehicle
or the chain or rope snaps and whiplashes through the back window.

I'm *very* wary of the amount of stored energy in a stretched rope
when doing this sort of thing, chain is better because it doesn't
stretch (much) and thus doesn't store nearly as much energy though of
course there may still be quite a bit of energy stored in bent roots
and branches.

Similarly one has to be very careful if felling a leaning tree, loads
of energy in that waiting to go somewhere.
