At my facility, all of the workers were National Guard. I thanked some of
them for being there but they gave me a look that said they didn't have a
choice.

No, but I'll bet they felt good at the end of the day. And I heard
some interview in a conservative area when the person thought getting it
from a soldier was something like patriotic.

I should have brought cupcakes.

I had read about Israelis bringing food, not just snacks but salads,
main dishes, casseroles, etc. and I was sitting there with a box of
cupcakes trying not to eat the remaining 6 at one meal. If I hadn't
thought of giving it to them, they would have only lasted a day for me.
