I was very annoyed by this programme. The presenter was told that
there was nothing hereditary in 'people of colour' like him, it was
just that they tend to be in unhealthy surroundings. The presenter
seemed to think this was the Government's fault. As he produced the
programme I bet he isn't at any greater risk than your typical whitey.
The rationale goes like this.
It is *offensive* to consider that a persons color has any meaning
beyond chromatic.
Therefore if they underperform in any way, it's down to bigotry and
institutional racism, not because they are crap.
Therefore if they get more ill in any way, it's down to
oppression/poverty, not because they are born vulnerable.
Since the original assumption is as much an article of faith as the
deepest bigotry of a white supremacist, there is nothing more to be said.
