The ECHR has found Pontins breached the 2010 Equality Act
Pontins has agreed to change its working practices after disclosure it had
a blacklist of Irish surnames used to screen out bookings for its holiday
parks.
Interesting from a legal point of veiw?
Very embarrassing for Pontins if they are selecting which customers to take
bookings from on racial/ethnic grounds, and especially if they use a
discriminator that is as crude (ie imprecise) as banned surnames, given that
there will not be an exact correlation between surname and ethnic origin.
I wonder what effect this news will have on bookings and on investments by
other companies.
