The CDC made an unprecedented announcement in September: As the nation
battled the coronavirus outbreak, most evictions had to be halted through
the end of the year.

The CDC has no legal power or authority to ban a landlord from evicting
someone.

Then in September, the CDC made an unprecedented announcement: Most
evictions had to be halted through the end of the year. Dr. Robert R.
Redfield, director of the CDC, signed a declaration that said evictions
could get in the way of the nations attempts at curbing the coronavirus.

Declarations by CDC doctors have no force of law.

Correct, but a moratorium on evictions was in place. Do you need help
with this?

If the local municipal court thinks it is an illegal "moratorium" and
the sheriff serves the eviction papers, out they go.

The federal government has no legal power to do this without
legislation from congress and that might even be illegal.

The reality is, as soon as the eviction notice is lifted, they will
move anyway, stiffing the landlord for all of that deferred rent.
We could be talking $15,000-$30,000 if they haven't paid rent for 10
months.
