Arlen has gone completely nuts. I think we're going to have to ignore or killfile

That ... and a sock fetish to boot ! :-)

so his heart is in the right place ...

But he sure is going about it in a strange way. He and Peeler should get a room,
so we don't have the off-topic threads bulging with his complaints.

Besides, he _can't_ save this newsgroup. People are going to do what they're
going to do regardless of his whinging. In some cases, it'll make them be
worse.
Your right, people interested in home repair are idiots that can't
even
understand the simplest of concepts. They prove it every day.
Come on, this is the simplest of concepts. alt.home.repair.
When I want to read what's posted here, I go to alt.idiocy.on.display.

Real problem is, there are none left. USENET as we knew it was taken
over by Google Groups. The old USENET servers are gone from the big
ISPs like ATT and Verizon.

There are plenty of non-Google Usenet providers, even free ones.
I can't see how any of your point excuses un-civilized behavior.

This morning there were some home repair related posts, but they are
just some old topics dug up from months ago. It is a lame attempt to
keep on topic, rehash old stuff by some old people.

I'd be prefectly fine with one post a week if that's what happens.
Not dozens of nutty political rants, name calling, and animosity.

I think the number of political posts dropped substantially in the two
weeks after the election and has leveled off at a substantially lower
level.

I expect the two weeks after the inauguration will be the same, but they
won't go to zero either.

I don't like the animosity either but I'll probably forget who said
what** within a month. (People may have noticed I can't remember
numbers and lots of other things either. I've been like this for
decades.)

**Except for the trolls that I've plonked. The filter reminds me of who
they were.

And we've long had human interest and humor posts, and I certainly like
those.
