If you used a regular antenna, you wouldn't need *power*
like that thing needs. There is a white wall adapter
in the box, and you'll need to plug that in... somewhere.

With a decent passive directional antenna, you'd get a strong signal and
good SNR. With this omnidirectional antenna, you get a weak signal.
Amplifying it up will get you a strong signal but also amplify the noise, so
you get a strong signal with poor SNR.
I wouldn't use it unless you were somewhere where a directional rooftop
aerial wouldn't work, or you were sufficiently close to the transmitter for
signal strength not to be a problem.
