Today's Times points out that this is due to incompetence and corruption.

quote

Fifty million face masks bought by the government in April will not be
used in the NHS because of safety concerns.

The government says the masks, which use ear-loop fastenings rather than
head loops, may not fit tightly enough.

They were bought for healthcare workers from supplier Ayanda Capital as
part of a £252m
contract.

Ayanda says the masks met the specifications the government had set out. The
government says its safety standards process is "robust".

It has emerged that the person who originally approached the government
about the deal was a government trade adviser who also advises the board of
Ayanda.

So that's another £252 of taxpayers money ****ed up against the wall
on the recommendation of a "government trade adviser" who also
happened to "advise" the supplier of the masks.

Move on there, there's nothing to see here ! Its business as usual for
the Tories and their mates.

Chorus: But just imagine how much worse things would have been, with
Jeremy Corbyn in charge.

ALL the face masks on sale to the public have elastic ear loops.
They are perfectly OK if worn correctly.

If the Nanny/Left wing NHS wants to play politics

Who'd want to "play politics" when the Tories and their mates can line their
pockets by helping themselves to taxpayers money by handing out contracts
that their chums can't even fulfil ?

Obviously *they" don't want to "play politics", they're too busy raking
it in, That's the last thing they'd want to concern themselves with.

Anyone would think you were in on these scams yourself, the way you're
talking Andrew.

Or maybe for some unaccountable reason you're just pleased to have
these grasping spivs, who you rush so readily to defend, helping
themselves to your money, on the pretext of it being a *national
emergency*

*Everything* the NHS uses has to be bought from a private company,
somewhere. Sorry to prick your misplaced sense of pride in
healthcare system that costs more than any other comparable country
and has far worse outcomes. It guzzles getting on for half a billion
pounds of private sector taxes every day. That's the scam.

If you took your head out of your arse you would realise that the
whole world was playing poker with ppe for a couple of months.

I worked for NHS for 11 years and I can assure you that it is stuffed
with clock-watchers and people who just drift up the incremental
scales until at age 60 the push off with an unfunded pension based
on just the last year of employment and which cost them a mere 6%
in income. In the case of GPs and Consultants it means they are in
breach of Gordon Browns 2006 pensions lifetime allowance, but no
problem, they seem to have been made a 'special' case.

The same applied to the thousands of NHS staff who have discovered
the rich picking to be had be leaving the NHS and comeing back the
next day working through an agency but now being paid double. When
the government tried to apply IR35 to them, they just threatened
to leave, so that was quietly dropped as well.
