If you were lowering that into a hole, you'd
probably have trouble getting it started.

Thermite will start off a magnesium ribbon,
without additional blow torch work. (I did Thermite
as a chem department open house demo one year. I
wasn't very good at it. I have no future
as an arsonist.)
