Don't use a mask, most are pretty pointless.

They do discourage you from picking your nose,
sucking your thump and doing stuff like that which
can infect you when out and about or when in the
presence of an infected person.

Actually infection as such is quite hard,

but the reason for the spread is the sheer number of interactions,

And how many infected people there are out there now.

and the number of people who have the virus, and are shedding it without
their knowledge.

Because of the significant time between being infected
and showing any symptoms at all. Quite a few of the
infected never show any symptoms at all.
