Yes, a lot of people has misunderstood. 'Sacrificial' means that the
item is lost, damaged, eroded, etc IN ORDER TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO
SOMETHING ELSE.

Not so often seen these days, but replaceable heels and soles are
sacrificial in that they protect the rest of the shoe.
