The NRA is a Us vs. Them situation. They want zero control.

That wasn't the case in the 1970's. Then Heston took over and
the nuts came out to play.



That didn't happen in a vacuum. There was also a significant increase
in gun laws in that time frame and the birth of anti gun groups.
You also had the outrageous ATF raid of Ken Ballew where they really
did not have probable cause (the warrant application was flawed), they
claimed they knocked and announced but it was not heard by either Mr
or Mrs Ballew and the cops were in civilian clothes.
Mr Ballew was killed.

A lot of gun owners had a shiver go down their spine after that.

Jack booted thugs can break into your house and kill you with no real
reason.


Waco and Ruby Ridge didn't inspire a lot of trust either. I'm not sure
if the alleged illegal weapons were ever found at Waco or if they went
the way of the famous weapons of mass destruction. Weaver was entrapped
by an ATF informant in an attempt to get inside the Aryan Nations. Again
the initial weapons charges were questionable as was the entire handling
of the situation.

Yeah highly trained government snipers did not know the difference
between a gun and a baby so they shot Mrs Weaver in the head. after
they shot her son in the back.
