I did and do complain about the tax cuts to the best off at the start of
austerity. That money could have been used to reduce borrowing.

But when the tax rate was cut the tax take went up and the best off
subsequently paid a higher %age of total income tax.


do you mean the 50% tax rate?

that was because the rate only lasted two years and it was possible for many
people in control of their own annual income to income shift into the years
either side of the ones that the rate was in existence

Having engaged in income shifting myself (unfortunately, not at the 50%
rate), this is a common occurrence
