i am planning on installin a double glazed window into
the gable end of my house i have the lintel and was after
a few pointers as the best place to start installing them
or i guess you could say i was after help on this whole thiing
cheers!

Is the gable wall double skinned brickwork, solid stone, brick faced

timber construction

ANSWER: single brick onthe outside 70mm cavity single brick inside

A cavity wall will need two angle iron lintels, one for the outside skin, and one for the inside skin, to
be able to keep the cavity qualities in the whole wall.

or (?) ? What
load rating does the lintel have for its length ?

???????

Does the gable wall have a chimney breast or other attachments on or
against it ?
ANSWER: no

There is no flat roof from any extensions built against the gable ?

Does the opening also require a sill ?

ANSWER: if you mean internal yes and if you mean external there is one on
the window

The window may already have a sill, but an additional moisture barrier may be needed under the window to
prevent any ingress from wind blown rain and drips. Best check with you local building control.

What type and weight or load will be above the opening ?

ANSWER: just the center ridge of the roof

Depending on how much of the wall you're removing, then you may need internal support to prevent the wall
from bending or sliping when the new slapping is done. Because you're removing part of the wall, you may
be taking a lot of the weight out which is actually holding the wall in place, so this needs a structural
survey to tell if the wall will need extra support to be able to take the wind and movement that elements
throw at the house.

Will the roof structure need temporary struts before you start to cut a
slapping in the walls ?

ANSWER: thats why i am asking

It depends on the weights you're dealing with in this job, so it's best to ask the help of a structural
engineer on this one.

Will the wall need corbelling butts if the slapping removes to much of the
lower structure below the slapping ?

ANSWER: thats why i am asking

Depending on how much weight you're removing the wall, then it may be necessary to place internal support
against the wall to take the strain of normal expansion and contraction of the structure.

Do you need planning permission before you start to overlook other peoples
properties and violate their privacy ?

ANSWER: already been given

If you already have the permission, then sak your local building control to have a look and advise on what
is actually needed. Most are very helpful when it comes to this type of thing.

Will the new window come up to new ventilation and thermal retention
requirements ?

yes

Good luck with it.

??????????????????????

Need input !!!
