That may well use
a 21st Century loading gauge rather than a 19th C one.

What, 7ft and a half inch?

I was thinking of height.not track width.

There are a few old broad gauge tunnels still in use on the
Paddington-Bristol line.

They are _big_.

They arnt that big , Box tunnel for instance had to have the trackbed
lowered by digging down to accommodate the cables for the recent
electrification .
What makes it look big is a bit of theatrical architecture at the entrances
which are larger than normal but the tunnel becomes smaller inside after a
short distance.
