I have tracked down the source of a significant leak in my 12 year old
Bosch dishwasher. There's a worn O ring on the water inlet side of
things. It's a fairly chunky O ring about 2 cms wide.

Bosch still sell these, but annoyingly they charge around £25 for a
set of 4.

I don't think it's possible to silicone the joint. Any other suggestions?

The machine has been used once or twice a day for 12 years, and I was
happily contemplating a new Bosch to replace it, but the price of this
simple spare has put me off.

Have you tried http://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/?Â* If they don't have one
in their shop you may find that if you ask a question on the relevant
forum you get suggestions - or someone* willing to sell you one for a
better price.

*it did occur to me I might be able to make a quick profit as a middle
man but the only one I found at first blush was for Smegs and might not
fit as you didn't give your precise model number.

I've spoken to a couple of o ring manufacturers, who offered to
manufacture them for me, but unsurprisingly at considerable cost.
