Some 50-year-old gets laid off from his factory job isn't going to get
a new job programming computers. He's going to get a job in retail,
provided his town survives the plant closure.

Anyone in a union factory job right now in the US who thinks his job
is safe may be too stupid to do anything else. Otherwise he would have
been learning another skill years ago so when that factory closes, and
it will, he can still find a decent job even if he has to move.

OTOH my BIL is making almost as much in retail as he did in his
Chrysler job after all of the concessions UAW made before they closed
the line anyway. (Kokomo IN)
