I have been signed up for free 30 day prime trial without knowingly
doing it. I cancelled soon after finding out and before the first
subscription payment.

I believe there may be cases where you don't get the option during the
latter stages payment/delivery to opt out because the goods on offer
were ONLY available (or available at that price) to prime customers but
you didn't have to be an existing prime subscriber to buy them.
