On my wife's Honda CR-V, it's at about 30 miles estimated range, which is
cutting it a bit fine.

It's funny how that 'safe' distance can change, depending on where you
are, even in the UK. ;-)

Like. We were making our way back from Dunnet Head to Dornoch on her
Virago 750 and my BMW R100RT when she indicated that her low fuel
light had come on. Now normally / traditionally / typically that has
been more than enough warning to finding a petrol station, pretty well
any time of the day and day of the week, where we normally motorcycle
anyway. ;-)

Long / short, 'she' finally ran out of fuel after probably 25-30 miles
and siphoning 50% of what I had left over to her (I had a bigger tank
as we would have filled up at the same time) in the hope we would find
somewhere before we both ran out! ;-(

Luckily we did ... and that taught us to not take such things for
granted, even 'only' in Scotland. ;-)
