I agree, it does look like some laminated cellulose product with a
picture of wood on it. I guess he just wants an opinion of what his
picture of a picture looks like to us. Southern pulp pine?

Actually there is a "blockwood" product on the market - similar in
concept to finger jointed trim. Allows the use of "marginall" lumber
and reduces waste. Some is even 2 layes glued together to eliminate
through glue joints. It was pretty common in Zambia in the early
seventies - ANY lumber was hellishly expensive as the vast majoritywas
imported into a landlocked country with currency controls.
