You have obviously never encountered arsehole moderators who censor
everything they don't agree with.

What seems to work best is moderation for new posters until they have
built up some trust then free posting but with moderator(s) prepared to
act when needed. You need to define what's kosher clearly and ensure the
moderators enforce the policy equally and consistently.

Works really well for TNP, he can post stuff and ignore the people that
show that it is wrong.

Stops him from questioning the cr@p he posts.
