This might be a silly question but how old is the radio? What about
taking it back and saying the product does not have the durability you
expected. If the battery is not replaceable, you could argue it
becomes an integral part of the product. Reasonable compromise would
be for JL to get the manufacturer to replace the battery.

Also, I think JL usually offers a two year guarantee.
