It is a solid state thermostat and thanks for the tip! I'll pull the batteries
out and see what happens. Trying to sort out all possibilities before picking
up the phone and calling the AC/Heating man. Won't I jump for joy if it's
something as simple as installing new batteries!?!


Your problem could be a sticking relay in the (inside?) unit. Sometimes,
tapping on the relay with the handle of a screwdriver will knock it
loose as a temporary fix. You would have to remove the cover to find the
relays. (And know what a relay looks like)
