I am so sick of this publicity seeking kook woman. Amazon cheated
and got kicked out. So what?

What exactly are you alleging that Amazon cheated on? The rest of us saw
Amazon and NY state and city reach an agreement, after which there was
such an uproar from the likes of Cortez, that Amazon decided they didn't
want to come to a city where they were not welcome. I would have made the
same decision.

Cortez was so stupid that she thought NY was just going to write
Amazon a check that she could have used for other things. She didn't
understand these were just tax concessions and the money would not
exist at all if Amazon moved to Northern Virginia.
Unfortunately NoVa is as blue as New York and their socialists might
blow up that deal too.

Probably so. The economics are complex and you could get a wide range
of estimates of the tax flows in and out of NY State and NYC with and
without Amazon. But to say that Amazon is worker "exploitation" really
tells you that she's a total Marxist moron. The average job was supposed
to be in the $130K range. Cortez though isn't the core of the problem.
Something very bizarre is happening when a moron like her can show up
and have Democrats that have been in office for years to decades, including
I think all the presidential wannabees, lining up behind her and her Marxist BS.
I hear McConnell is going to put her Green Manifesto up for a vote in the
Senate. That will give all the Democrats an opportunity to weigh in on
whether they support this crazy BS or not, force them to choose. Let them
be on record.

I am not a huge Bezos fan but I bet no community lost money because
Amazon was in town.
**** they even collect state sales tax most places.

One very legitimate question that should be asked about subsidizing Amazon
is how is it fair to the local hardware stores in NYC or to Macy's, Target,
etc? They are in NYC paying full taxes. They have to compete against
Amazon, which is undercutting their business and prices. Why should they
have to pay full taxes to NYC and state, but Amazon gets a break?

I can see this when there is an economically depressed area and the govt
does it with all businesses that choose to open new facilities there.
But when it's a huge, successful company that's actually putting the hurt
on many local businesses, it sure become highly dubious. To be sure, there
would be a lot of help to the businesses that are near the Amazon facility.
Even the local hardware store would likely be a big beneficiary. But for
businesses outside the immediate area, if they are competing against Amazon
in any way, it sure isn't fair that they pay full taxes, while A gets
subsidized. But IDK what the answer is either. If state A offers a
subsidy and B doesn't, B won't get big players like Amazon to come there.
It would take agreement across all or most of the states to stop this and
that isn't going to happen.

Still, I'm very much enjoying the smack down for Cuomo and di Blasio,
much of it at the hands of their own ilk.
