I've been lucky too. If a NP couldn't handle it the MD would have just
kicked me up to a specialist anyway.

Then there's that. I broke a wedge off the tibia. I could walk although
it was a little painful. After a couple of weeks I decided it wasn't
going to fix itself so I called the orthopedic place for an appointment.
No go, without a physician's referral. So it was off to the doctor's. It
wasn't the first rodeo for us when it came to broken bones so he trusted
my diagnostic abilities, gave me a referral, and a pair of crutches.
