Does anyone own one of these? How good are they? I was told
that the company had gone out of business?

Stanley is still in business and still makes garage door openers, but
only for commercial appications, not residential. They sold their
residential opener business to Whistler, which later went bankrupt.

Stanley openers were solidly made, with a worm drive gearbox, unlike
the Sears/ Chamberlain/Liftmaster openers, which are still known for
breaking their drive gears eventually. Stanley chain drive openers
also required no lubrication of their overhead rail or trolley, and
their electronics weren't prone to picking up false signals that could
make the opener ignore the electric eye and keep closing the door even
when there was an obstruction.

Do they still make them now - look for info on a stanley gate opener from 1974?
