Time to crack down on the ATF and on gun dealers!

We have been saying that for years. ATF ignores the crimes they are
charged with enforcing.
The other thing that happens is gun charges typically get dealt

away to get a plea on the top count of the indictment, even when
the gun charge might actually bring more time because of mandatory
minimums.

I have no idea who "We" is but, OK. Glad you agree that the ATF
should be closing down gun dealers who sell guns illegally or who
habitually disregard other regulations.

It would be a small benefit to the overall gun problem in the nation
but, every little bit helps.

We being legal firearm owners and the NRA. Firearm dealers are buried
in regulation with very spotty enforcement but the results are dire if
you are caught. It is like OSHA violations, the IRS or just about any
other government program.
I also agree dealers are not the biggest part of the illegal gun
problem. Thieves are.
I will throw you a bone and admit a lot of gun owners are sloppy with
where and how they store their guns. Mine are locked up and you would
have to look pretty hard to even find the places where they are locked
up.

You are not throwing me a bone by telling the truth. As it is such a
rare event, I understand why you might consider it a treat for others.
;-)

Thieves are also small part of the overall gun problem. The majority
of the problem is the guns themselves. Too many that are too easy to
get, too easy to pass on to others and too easy to use to perpetrate
mass mayhem and murder.

There are 350-400 MILLION guns here and several thousand actually are
involved in a murder. That means most are peacefully being used by
legal owners.
Of those guns that do become involved in a murder most were stolen. In
fact the trail is so cold when recovered the cops don't even bother to
try to trace them.
