Default A/C Mini-Split System

I'm told that:

mini-split systems handle both heating and cooling.

One condenser unit can supply several evaporator units.

Each evap unit has its own thermostat.

Does this mean that each evap unit thermostat has the ability to change the flow of coolant to
that unit?

Or???

I guess my question is, how does the condenser unit handle differing requirements from the
various evap units?

The condenser usually has a reservoir for high-pressure liquid refrigerant and the different evaporators will have expansion valves used to control the amount of refrigerant flowing into the evaporator based on temperature. There may also be solenoid valves at each evaporator to shut off the flow of Freon but when the evaporator fan is off, the evaporator temp will drop and the expansion valve may be what stops the flow of Freon. There are different types of compressors and systems to control the amount of refrigerant going to the evaporators so looking at the specs for a specific unit will indicate how it works. A variable speed compressor may not need a reservoir. ^_^
