If L1 is the perm live then you cannot of course make L2 go live!

Hi Adam

There is a light fitting further into the bathroom that doesn't
appear to have a live feed to it at all!

My thoughts were that the switch had been incorrectly wired, but I
wanted some informed opinion on this.

The bathroom has two light sources, one being a couple of spots
driven by a transformer. These are fed by the switched live
successfully. There appears to be some twin and earth heading
from the switch in the general direction of the dud fitting. The
daft bit is how the dud fitting is fed. A ceiling rose attached
to the original ceiling has drop flex passing down through a
lower suspended ceiling into the dud light fitting.
The rat's nest nature of the wiring and my limited time there left
me less confident of disconnecting stuff in case I left her with
less operational fittings.

I think the only way we'll get informed fact is if you see if the unlive wire feeds the dead fitting. If it does & you swap the swL with L the switch will then light either one of the fittings but never both nor neither If tha unlive does feed the deadun it sounds like a very easy job - if the dead fitting is fit to receive 240v.
