suggests that one does, or possibly did, exist.

I suppose I could envisage, especially in a larger country than the UK,
a specialised vehicle carrying forensic resources and perhaps some
accomodation or welfare facilities making sense. Or perhaps for
deploying larger teams of "riot police" or the like.
