Historically, democracy hasn't done well. The hair-splitters that will
say 'This is a republic, not a democracy' miss the point completely.
if there is any doubt the mediocre select the mediocre for their
representatives, consider Congress. Intelligence, statesmanship, and
good taste are sadly lacking in both parties.
