Typical homemoaners, only half the info. I would assume those are the
terminals on the new thermostat? How many wires do you have and what
color are they? Normally red is one side of the transformer and white
is heat. Connecting those would turn the furnace on to heat.

r - red tranformer one side
w - white heat
y - yellow cool
g - green fan
c - other side of the transformer
