Precisely.Â* But most do not pay a sales tax on these type transactions
because they are not a business.Â* It is not financially feasible for the
state to track down and go after non business unregistered buyers.
It is the responsibility of the buyer to pay the sales tax and the
sellers responsibility to collect the sales tax and submit to the state
that they are doing business in.Â* If the sale is outside the state the
buyer should submit the sales tax directly to the state.Â* But few ever
do that.


Our state income tax form has a line where you can fill in the tax owed
for out of state and mail order purchases. The people of CT are very
honest and I'm sure everyone fills it out properly.
