Repeated cracking is most likely a symptom of an underlying problem. If
you can find and eliminate the root cause, you can patch it once and for
all and be done with it.

True. For a small crack, using acrylic latex paint able caulk is a
good choice. It can remain flexible; preventing a crack form opening
up.
