Flies around your picnic?

No worries:

$39? Hmm, I have a system. Wait for the fly to land, then clap your hands
about 1-2" above the fly. They detect the wind of your closing hands and
take off, flying right up into harm's way. Works very well, once you have
done it a few times.

In the late 70's our group was housed in a metal clad building with
lots of windows. We were well populated with flies (which the landlord
chose to ignore) and somewhat under employed so we developed a "fly
rifle" on which the trigger released the loose end of a large elastic
band tethered to the end of the barrel so with a little practice, once
the end of the barrel was within a foot of the fly it became a black
smear. A sheet of celuloid on a wire support served as a sighting
device/splatter shield. The landlord was less than impressed when it
came time to clean the windows.
