Default What's the performance difference between 15 inch, 16 inch and 17 inch tires (all else equal)?

diameters change.
The unsprung weight can go up or down, depending on the weight of the
tire and the rim.

In other words, you can't take points from 2 different articles
discussing 2 different things and put them together and draw these
kinds of conclusions.

I've read basically a dozen seemingly reliable articles where you are
correct that it's hard to impossible to cross reference their claims.

However, almost every article maintained three key concepts, which are the
takewaways.

+ You probably will not get better mileage with larger overall diameters
+ But, there are so many factors involved, that you'd have to take all of
them into account to be sure
+ Where the biggest (but not only) factor is how much spare torque you have
+ and the next biggest is the width of the contact patch
+ but plenty of other factors play a role.
