I'm sitting here in my son's living room , where I have just replaced part
of the ceiling that got wet from an evap coil enclosure leak . Got the
drywall up and mud/taped all around , now I gotta figure out how to match
the texture . It looks like a sanded mud that's had a brush or something
swirled on the surface . Kinda random , some swirls and some more like
streaks . Applied about 1/16"-1/8" thick then swirled or whatever .
I need some suggestions , I've never done this before ...

Texture is tough to do and imitate. There are many done using
brushes, even nylon brushes. Perhaps all the rooms have the same. One
option, just an option, is to spray texture using a hoper spray gun.
You would need a good compressor to keep up and a well mixed mud
thinned out. There are textures called sanded or orange peel (like the
skin of an orange). That still takes talent but you have to do the
entire ceiling.

The suggestion to practice on some scrap is best; either way you pick,
brush or spray. Practice, practice, practice.
