First thing I'd check is the PSU voltages to the backlights, then the
backlights themselves. If you haven't done it before be very careful,
it's very easy to break the screen when dismantling.

Then you shouldn't worry about the OP breaking the screen because
(1) It wasn't his TV. The TV in question was at some bar and grill
(2) He said he wasn't going to fix it anyway
