There is a fitting that takes the place of the toilet seat and raises
things about the same amount - this has the benefit that others can used
the toilet without being incommoded (sorry!) by lifting it off. Don't know
a supplier but my Mother has one in her semi sheltered accomodation so I
know that they exist !

Yes, BUT WATCH the NHS ones. They are not as good as the commercial ones.
My mother is disabled and has used both. There are plenty of firms around
doing aids for the disabled.
