I sure would love to revitalize this group with my presence. Most of
you won't remember this but there was a time when this group was the
preeminent source of online woodturning discussion. Stubby was King,
Oneway was supporting terror, and Robust wasn't even a glimmer in
Brent's eye yet. The likes of myself, Lyn, Arch, Ruth, Paul, DJ, and
Leiv lived here and blessed it with a fountain of knowledge that
can't be matched by the Facebook groups that are currently all the
rage. There are many reasons for the decline here. Most notably the
Utah Faction. Most of you won't know about this conspiracy but be
certain it's alive and well. I can't do this alone though. I need
your help. Only I spearhead this and I'm prepared toself finance. I
pledge not to take any special interest money. Join me in making RCW
great again. God Bless,

I haven't been able to fathom out why Foolsbook has replaced so many
Usenet groups. Is it because malcontents can be blocked?

I've got better blocking and filtering tools for Usenet than anywhere
else.

The problem is HTTP is king. It's cousin, HTTPS is working on succeeding
the king. Usenet is accessible primarily through NNTP and some ok but
not great HTTP to Usenet relays (Homeownershub, Google Groups.) For
someone to get on Usenet nowadays, they have to go looking for it...
Which means they first have to learn there's that option! (In the
beginning of Firefox, one of the things people had to learn was the word
"browser" and "There's a choice?")

Couple that with just about everybody being on Facebook. I'm only on
Facebook because everyone else is... and I value being able to
communicate with them via messaging or IM more than I dislike and
distrust Facebook.

Oh, btw, if you reuse passwords (like many of us do, we have to!) make
your Facebook password unique. Go ahead, write it down. Seriously! Use
Keepass or something and write it down!

So what am I willing to do for RCW? I will continue to post messages
when the time arises to ask questions and respond to posts according to
my ability. I will use capitol letters and periods, separating my posts
into short paragraphs for easy reading.
