I'm not too fond of his sheepdog analogies but Grossman's books like 'On
Killing' or 'On Combat' is a good read if you're planning to kill someone.

If you dump your bowels and bladder along with your adrenaline, you
aren't the Lone Ranger. Then there's the tunnel vision, time warp, and
other goodies. He's done a lot of training and talked to a lot of people
over the years. Many of them don't really know what the hell happened.
They piece together a story from the fragments they remember which may
not match reality. They're not lying, they were just off in an alternate
universe.
