I think what they mean is the earpeice identifies itself as a stereo
device and mixes it to mono.

Normally with those kind of single-ear bluetooth devices, it'll work with
the phone just fine for phone calls, but if you select the music (or
podcast) player, the phone won't see the device as something usuable.

Regular bluetooth headphones or stereo earbuds work either way.
