Default Philips VR457/03 rectifier diode (for 9-15 VDC) dies after couple of hours of operation

Mark thanks, you were right. I thought the shop sold me the right one
but close inspection revealed they didn't.....I'm eating my shoes
right now and should have checked........thanks again,

Marcel

Is your replacement diode of the high-speed type? Switching power supplies
need fast rectifiers.

Hi, anyone experience with Philips VCR VR457/03 problems where the
9/15VDC rectifier diode in the power unit(BYW98-200) dies after a
couple of hours (the usual semiconductor smell).
I don't have the schematics but it seems this rectifier only drives
the motor circuitry. I haven't been able to measure the current at the
point it dies, but during the first hour or so, current is around 1A.
Have checked/replaced the capacitors but no luck so far....

Thanks, Marcel
