Sherrod Brown endorses Hillary Clinton - By Gabriel Debenedetti
10/27/15 10:58 AM EDT - POLITICO

Hillary Clinton picked up an endorsement Tuesday from a prominent Senate liberal, Ohio Sen. Sherrod Brown, giving her the backing of top elected Democrats in each of the three biggest general election swing states.

With Brown -- a prominent ally of progressive hero Elizabeth Warren -- in the fold, Clinton can boast of support from Ohio's lone Democratic senator, Virginia's Democratic governor and its two senators, and Florida's one Democratic senator.

The endorsement, which was first reported by the Northeast Ohio Media Group, underscores Clinton's dominance among her former Democratic Senate colleagues: Brown is the 33rd senator to back Clinton, according to FiveThirtyEight's endorsement tracker, compared to zero for her main rival, Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders. (Delaware's Tom Carper officially backed Clinton on Monday after initially supporting Vice President Joe Biden.)

But it is also a significant pick-up for her because of Brown's popularity among liberals, the group most closely identified with Sanders.
