Default RS232 to 9 pin serial port cable

It goes from the 9 pin serial port on my computer to a female socket on

the
top of the tool that looks like a big telephone connector. I probably
didn't have the terminology right. All I've been able to find doing an
internet search is 9 pin serial port to USB adapter cables and those won't
work on this thing. I let a friend borrow the tool to read the codes on
his car and don't have it with me today. I believe the telephone looking
socket has 9 pins also.

Ahhhh okay, it does sound like a custom cable then. The phone jack

somes in
even number of pins from 2 to 10. Phones use 4 or 6 pin, 10baseT Ethernet

uses
8 pin jacks. They do make a 10, but it's not used much.

Does you friend have the cable, or do you even need the cable except to
download to your PC? Somewhere, there may be a wiring diagram for that

cable
(not likely), best bet is to find someone with the same machine, and copy

their
cable, or bite the bullet if all else fails. And write down the specs in

case
the cable is ever lost.

Thanks, Raymond. I did some more calling around again today and you're
right in that it's definitely a custom cable. I'll just order it and pay
the money, I reckon.
