THE UK GOVERNMENT HAS ANNOUNCED plans to trial 'electric highways', an
initiative that will allow electric car owners to travel long distances
without needing to stop and charge the car's battery.

They're called 'electric trains'.

old idea, put 1/2 of a transformer in the road, the other half in the vehicle. they have wireless cell phone chargers like that now.

no pesky connector to fail

Was there a link? I'd like to see the math on charging 1000 cars stalled
on the freeway at rush hour.
And the ROI of installing the thing.
And the position of the tree-huggers who are gonna oppose anything
like riding a foot above a huge magnetic field.

Sheeples don't want to live close to a high tension line. Wonder how this
affect the steering on steel wheel cars or their steel bodies. Ask Greg
Fretwell what size cable needed to power this fantasy. Who pays? Long
distances???
