Same here. I carry one for emergency only, have a $10/month plan. Recently lost my phone. Verison sold me a new on but I had to pay an "upgrade' fee. Cost of new phone? $1.00. Yep that's right one whole dollar. It is the old 'flip phone' style. I have had a CP since the early days and have only used one less than a dozen times.
