I think "decimated" (killed one tenth) is a very generous word in this
case.

Yes, but it wasn’t any of Thatcher's policies that
did that, it happened world wide at that time.

Most of the trouble was poor productivity.. and that was down to there
being no point in investing in manufacturing while the unions are going
to demand more to operate it.
